"I am Rachel Pilling originally from Salford but now live in Rochdale Greater Manchester, I am currently Head of Department for Student Experience, Support and Safeguarding at The Manchester College, I originally joined as a Tutor over 13 years ago.
Since then, I have worked with over 5000 ‘at risk' students, putting rigorous systems in place and developing exemplary practices that have provided significant support and intervention. These systems have enabled the most vulnerable inner city young people and adults to achieve and progress, transforming their lives and the lives of their families.
I attend the Manchester Children's Safeguarding Board, sharing good practice with multi-agency teams, inputting into new arrangements for safeguarding in Manchester from an education perspective.
The sector has grown and diversified so much just since I joined, but the fundamental element, and the reason I moved into the sector, remains the same – to give everyone the opportunity, whatever the circumstances of their lives to access education and training.
I am a committed, motivated leader and aim to empower any team I manage to develop and implement a student experience strategy through a strategic lead and vision approach in order to operationally drive whole college improvements in the learner journey, ensuring all students are given access to outstanding services."
