Mrs Rebecca Hunter

"I have been the headteacher at St. John’s for seven years and I am very proud to be part of a forward thinking, hard working and dedicated team of staff who put the needs of the children at the heart of all they do. Our school ethos is at the centre of all decision making and is what makes our school so special.

During my time at St. John’s our school site has been developed considerably with lots of outdoor spaces created including new Forest School areas, EYFS playground, playground equipment, MUGA pitch, reading areas in each classroom as well as a new build which has given us two additional classrooms, additional spaces which enable us to provide a wealth of different activities for our children as well as lots of reading spaces around school. Our new school office has created a purposeful space as well as a welcoming entrance for all our parents and visitors. We are looking forward to our school becoming one form entry in September 2024 enabling us to provide additional places for the community.

Before working at St. John’s I was a deputy headteacher in a large Oldham school for five years and before that a deputy headteacher in a Tameside School for 5 years. I have taught in every year group across the three key stages and have had lots of Early Years experience too. Understanding how children learn and develop throughout their early and primary years is vital when planning and developing a progressive curriculum.

My job is varied working with children, parents/carers, staff, governors, local authority officers and other educational professionals and coordinating this work gives me enormous pleasure especially seeing the impact it has in school and on our children. My favourite times of the day are observing learning around school, spending time with the children at lunch and break times, leading Collective Worship and staff meeting times too. I love the challenge and opportunities that working in a church school brings and seeing our children achieving well and prepared for the next phases of learning is an honour.

I am committed to ensuring that St. John’s continues to develop throughout the 21st century and continues to provide the best education journey possible for our children.
